Super Visa For Parents & Grandparents Of Canadians

A parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident can apply for Canada super visa. Super Visa is a multi-entry visa for a period of up to 10 years. With a super visa, eligible parents or grandparents can visit their children and their families in Canada for up to 2 years without the need to renew their status.

How Super Visa Works?

With a super visa for parents and grandparents, they can visit family in Canada for up to 2 years with no need to renew their status. That is a great way to save time and to visit your children or grandchildren more often.  A super visa for parents is a multi-entry visa that allows multiple entries for up to a 10-year period. While most visitors can be in Canada for up to 6 months when they first enter. Those who want to stay longer must apply for an extension, and pay a new fee. 

 

Super Visa Requirements

Parental relationship

Be a parent or grandparent of a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen. It could be proved by a birth certificate.

Invitation letter

A child or grandchild who invites a parent or grandparent to Canada must sign an invitation letter of financial support that includes the following information:

 

 

  • A promise of financial support for the length of visit 
  • Family size in Canada, the list and number of people in the household of an invitee.
  • Proof of status in Canada, a copy of a Canadian passport or permanent resident card.

Medical insurance

Medical insurance must be:

  • Issued by a Canadian insurance company.
  • Valid for at least 1 year from the date of parents’ entry to Canada.
  • At least for CAD$100,000 coverage.
  • Paid.

During a super visa processing, an immigration officer considers a number of other things before making a decision. Visa officer will look at parents’ ties to a home country and overall economic and political stability of a home country, as well as genuineness of visit and likelihood of leaving Canada by end of authorized stay.

Minimum Necessary Income For Super Visa For Parents

For a parent super visa, children must prove they meet the necessary gross income requirement for a household. A child or grandchild may use the income scale to assess the ability to meet the income requirements, based on the size of a family unit.

More than 7 persons, for each additional person, add – $6,723 (2018).

 

Children may provide a number of documents to prove they meet the minimum income requirement, such as:

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year 
  • Employment Insurance stubs
  • Employment letter including salary and date of hire 
  • Pay stubs
  • Bank statements.

Applicants for a super visa will be required to undergo a medical examination. Forms and instructions for this examination will be issued by the visa office after the application has been submitted.

More than 7 persons, for each additional person, add – $6,723 (2018).
