Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score

Candidates in the Express Entry Pool are assigned points based on age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors. Then candidates with the highest CRS score are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

What Is Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)?

Comprehensive Ranking System is a vital part of the Express Entry, the points-based system that gives you an individual score (out of maximum 1200 CRS score) in the pool of candidates.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses a Comprehensive Ranking System to access, score, and rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Then candidates with the highest CRS score are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Comprehensive Ranking System Formula

Total CRS score (max 1200) = Core Points (max 600) + Additional Points (max 600).

An overview of the comprehensive ranking system criteria and respective points helps to identify a candidate’s weaknesses and strengths. If individual CRS score is low, there are ways to increase CRS score primarily by:

Getting more work experience.
Increasing language proficiency.
Getting a degree.

Calculate your CRS score using the free online tool that you can find here. It will take only 5 minutes to complete. Then, you can work to increase your CRS score.
